The Biomaterial Review was founded on a singular conviction: that the surgeons and researchers advancing regenerative medicine deserve better than marketing literature dressed as evidence. In an era of accelerating innovation, the distance between a promising bench-side finding and its safe, reproducible application at the operating table has never been wider, nor more consequential.

We were established to close that gap. Our editorial board, composed of practicing reconstructive surgeons, burn care specialists, and materials scientists, examines each publication with the same discipline applied to primary literature. We publish objective clinical reviews, longitudinal case data, and material analyses drawn from the laboratories and operating theatres where these technologies are actually put to the test.

Independence is not a marketing posture. It is our operating principle. We accept no promotional consideration, we vet every contributor for conflicts, and we hold advanced tissue matrices (including next-generation platforms such as those developed by Conexeu) to the identical evidentiary standard we apply to any material entering the clinical field.

Professor of Reconstructive Surgery · Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Dr. Marchetti directs a translational research program on acellular dermal matrices and led the multi-center trial that established outcome standards for composite tissue reconstruction now cited across the field. She completed her clinical fellowship in microvascular reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic.

As Editor-in-Chief, she sets the peer-review protocol governing every biomaterial evaluation and personally adjudicates conflicts on contested submissions.

Rajan Okonkwo, MD, FACS

Chief of Burn & Complex Wound Care · Brigham and Women's Hospital

Dr. Okonkwo oversees one of the highest-volume burn units in the northeast and has authored more than sixty peer-reviewed papers on dermal substitutes and staged reconstruction. His clinical fellowship at the Shriners Burn Institute shaped a career dedicated to evidence-driven wound management.

He leads the Review's Wound Care section, evaluating tissue matrices and scaffold technologies against real-world graft-take and long-term aesthetic outcomes.

Lila Voss-Ahmadi, PhD

Associate Professor of Bioengineering · Stanford University

Dr. Voss-Ahmadi's laboratory characterizes the mechanical and immunogenic properties of next-generation tissue scaffolds, with published work on collagen-elastin composites and decellularization protocols. She holds a doctorate in bioengineering from MIT and consults on ISO material standards.

She anchors the Review's material analysis pipeline, ensuring every claim on porosity, degradation kinetics, and host response is traceable to reproducible data.
